The Kennedy Club was established at St George’s College over 50 years ago, to support young people with special educational needs. Fostered and nurtured by College Sixth Form students, the club has prospered and is exceptionally well supported.

A temporary hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions, led us to change the focus of Kennedy Club, creating a new opportunity to support a group of young Afghan refugees living in a local hotel and we began welcoming displaced young people into our community on 27 January 2022.

This new Kennedy Club focus offered evenings of true hospitality and provided time and a safe space to nurture long-standing friendships and connections through board games, sport and much more. The club was embraced so enthusiastically that, at one point, more than 70 Sixth Form students were actively participating.

We were honoured to be nominated for the BBC Radio Surrey and Sussex Make a Difference Awards, and even more delighted when Kennedy Club was announced as the winner of the Together Award on 25 September 2023.

Each year, our student Kennedy Club Presidents provide strong leadership, ensuring the club continues to embody both the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and our Georgian values, while also proudly encouraging their fellow students to do the same.

With mixed emotions, we hosted the final Kennedy Club session in this format on 2 July 2026. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our wonderful partners, Elmbridge CAN and Big Leaf, with whom we look forward to continuing to work with.

On Thursday 24 September 2026, we were delighted to relaunch Kennedy Club as it returns to its original format, welcoming adults with learning disabilities. It has been wonderful welcoming previous attendees alongside new guests. While we have only hosted two new sessions so far, we have already begun to see friendships forming and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our guests with our new Kennedy Club Presidents and Sixth Form students. We look forward to building more new friendships, creating lasting memories, and continuing a tradition that has made such a positive difference to so many lives.
