On the move: Lower Years settle into The Ark

Friday, 20th November was a special day for St George’s Junior School, Weybridge and one of much excitement and wonder for the Lower Years’ pupils as they made their long awaited move into their new classrooms in The Ark.

The Ark provides a modern, eco-friendly designed learning environment for existing Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils, as well as a new look Nursery which will be completed by the Spring of 2016.

Throughout the day, each year group packed up their learning materials and said farewell to their old classrooms before making the short walk over to their new ones. The boys and girls in the Nursery each had their own personal box containing their favourite toy, which they carried over to their temporary classrooms in the Lower Years’ building being vacated; they will occupy these classrooms until their new look Nursery is completed.

It was wonderful for staff to see the look of excitement and curiosity on the faces of the children as they explored their new surroundings for the first time: opening doors, trying out their new lockers and getting a feel for their news desks and chairs.

While the pupils will have watched its striking exterior come to life over recent months, the interior was completely new to them, so each year group took time to explore their surroundings and revel in the colourful and interactive delights of The Ark. Amongst the fascinating wall murals, animal themed classrooms and smart storage spaces, one of the big highlights was the multi coloured soft tiling on the balcony of the Outdoor Learning Area, which will undoubtedly facilitate many a fun activity for years to come.

This week (beginning Monday 23 November), the children have begun to settle into normal lessons in The Ark, and will begin to enjoy the many benefits that the new building brings over the coming months and years.
