Fourth Year GCSE Food Prep students get cooking to mark the Chinese New Year

On Wednesday 6 February, the Fourth Year GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition students prepared and displayed a superb range of Chinese dishes to mark the Chinese New Year of the Pig.

All of the students worked very hard, demonstrating a variety of practical skills, as well as using traditional techniques such as stir-frying using woks and steaming using bamboo steamers. The dishes made, included chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, beef in a black bean sauce, vegetable dumplings, prawn spring rolls, chicken satay, egg fried rice, baked spring rolls and the Chinese New Year cake ‘Nian Gao’. 

A big thank you must be given to Mrs Hogben from the Junior School Catering team, who produced a magnificent display of carved fruit and vegetables to make the final display look even more outstanding.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and as their teacher it was a delight to see the way in which they worked to produce such an impressive display in order to welcome in the Chinese New Year.
