In most years up to 110 (five classes) boys and girls will join the College at age 11. About a quarter of these children will come from maintained primary schools, a further quarter from 11+ preparatory schools and approximately half from the College’s Junior School. A large number of schools feed into the College.
Families are encouraged to have their first introduction to the College by attending one of the Open Mornings in March or September. Click here for the next Open Morning dates.
Open Mornings offer prospective families an informal visit to the College where extensive tours with Sixth Formers are offered along with a chance to talk to staff. The Headmaster makes an address to families at regular intervals throughout the morning. Parents are also welcome to arrange an appointment with Mr Joe Peake, the Headmaster of the College. A short tour with younger students can also be arranged at this time. Interviews with prospective children, however, are not part of the entry process.
When parents feel that St George’s is a strongly possible choice for their son or daughter, they are encouraged to register. Registration must take place before 30th November of the year preceding entry.
The following criteria are used to determine entry:
Boys and girls must be under 12 years of age on the 1st September of the year of entry.
The entrance examination takes place in January before entry in September of that year. The date is organised in consultation with other major independent schools. Girls and boys come to the College for a whole day.
We do try to make this as enjoyable as possible! Children will be given lunch.
Four examination papers are sat:
The latter two papers are set and marked in the College. The first two are set and marked externally. Sample copies of the Mathematics and English papers are available for families - Please contact our Admissions Office
