Year 1 pupils learn Judo from a GB athlete

This morning, Wednesday 8 March, Year 1 pupils at St George's Junior School, Weybridge had a brilliant morning learning Judo from a GB athlete!

As a reward for the pupils having completed over 60 miles at each one of our 'One Mile Breakfast Club sessions - Run the World' initiative, Active Surrey chose St George’s Junior School as winners of a free Judo taster session from Core Judo.

Eighteen Year 1 pupils were awarded for their attendance of the 'One Mile Breakfast Club' over the Christmas and Easter Terms. The session was led by Jonathon Purssey and Great Britain International Aaron Turner from Core Judo.

Core Judo Academy was named Youth Sport Trust's 'Team of the Year' in both Surrey and Runnymede, having enjoyed an incredible year of successes, with the club experiencing record results at the British Championships, player representation at the National teams and results from the British Schools' Championships. Six players from the club (a record number) made it onto the England performance pathway team and will represent their country in International events in 2017.

Our Year 1 pupils had lots of fun learning Japanese words, customs, holds and attacks in a very enjoyable 45 minute session. Parents...watch out!
