U11A team reach the semis at Surrey Schools' Netball Tournament
On Wednesday 7 February, St George's Junior School U11A netball team travelled to Guildford High School for the Surrey Schools' Netball Tournament.
Although it was one of the coldest days of the year so far, the sun was shining on St George's and the 25 other schools that had entered the tournament. Once everyone had settled, each school pulled their name out of a hat before being put into one of four sections. St George's group consisted of 6 teams, including Holy Cross, Hawthorns, Newland House, Claremont, Sutton and Cranleigh, as well as St George's.
Here are the results of the group stages for St George's:
Won 8-2 v The Hawthorns School
Won 3-2 v Holy Cross School
Won 11-0 v Sutton
Won 8-0 v Cranleigh School
Won 5-1 v Newland House
Won 6-2 v Claremont School
After some excellent performances in the group stages, the girls went through as group winners and then took on Hall Grove in the quarter-finals, where they won convincingly 9-1. This meant St George's was through to the semi-finals to play against local rivals Hoebridge School. Unfortunately the girls were outplayed and were beaten 10-3, with Hoebridge going on to claim the title against Caterham.
The squad played some outstanding netball throughout the course of the tournament showing passion, determination and real skill, as well as finishing the day having reached the semi-finals, scoring 51 goals and only conceding 17. This was also the furthest St George's has made it in at least 5 years!
A special thank you goes to Ms Tallisa Haynes (Teacher at the College and Surrey Storm Player) who came along to support our team and give her wisdom to the girls on the day.
Well done to everyone involved!13 February 2018
