St George's reaches fantastic fundraising total of £50,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support

On Monday 3 July, students from St George’s College were presented with a special certificate of thanks from Macmillan Cancer Support as they recently hit the £50,000 mark raised for the charity.

Lara Willis, Head of First Year at the school said, “Our First Year students have really enjoyed putting on our annual fundraising week for Macmillan over the past 13 years which has included sponsored silences, fun runs, international cuisine days, ‘cross channel’ static rowing challenges and cake bakes. It’s a charity that’s close to the hearts of many families and it’s great that we’re doing our best to support this worthy cause.”

To mark the occasion Emma Heley, Macmillan’s fundraising manager for Surrey, and Sian Wing, cancer nurse at Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust visited the school to express their thanks and to tell students what a difference their fundraising makes to people affected by cancer. Emma said, “We’d like to say a huge thank you to St George’s College for their amazing support over the years. The money they’ve raised could fund a Macmillan nurse for nearly a year, helping people living with cancer receive essential medical, practical and emotional support. What an incredible achievement!”
