Football tournament held in aid of Christian Iraqi refugees

St George’s Junior School, Weybridge hosted its eagerly awaited annual Year 2 Football Tournament on Thursday 9 March between the Junior School and two other local primary schools, St Charles Borromeo and Holy Family.

There were seven teams in total of keen footballers who battled it out in a round robin style competition. Spirits were high throughout the afternoon, which was held not only to give the children the chance to show off their football skills but also to raise money for Parishes for Peace, a new charity supported by our local church, Christ the Prince of Peace.

Parishes for Peace raises money to support Christian Iraqi refugees who have had to flee their homes and are currently taking refuge in Jordan as they try to find a new country to call home. Fr Con, Parish Priest, attended the tournament and attempted to save penalty shots at goal – a very popular sideline activity for the teams when they rested and siblings supporting the footballers.

Really well done to all players and teams.
