Learning

The learning structure for children at St George’s Nursery and Reception is developed in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

Children will learn skills, acquire knowledge and demonstrate understanding within seven key areas for learning and development:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

Small class sizes ensure that each child is given individual support, allowing them to discover their own unique way of learning within a calm and creative environment.

Nursery and Reception children receive two RE lessons a week, as well as collective worship, and also celebrate Saints' Day in the Chapel. This enables the boys and girls to develop their Catholic learning and also gain a wider knowledge of world religion, with Diwali and Judaism just two of the topics covered. There is also a 'Thought of the Week', which is a theme that runs through the worship of that day.

As well as this, children from both Nursery and Reception also have access to our outdoor learning area on a daily basis. In this environment, the learning will often mimic the topic that is being covered inside the classroom.
